Influential Saudi newspaper Al Riyadh published an article addressing the serious mine contamination problem in Azerbaijan in the post-conflict period following the 44-day Patriotic War

On 20 April 2026, the influential Saudi newspaper Al Riyadh published an article addressing the serious mine contamination problem in Azerbaijan in the post-conflict period following the 44-day Patriotic War. According to official statistics, a total of 421 people have been affected by landmine explosions since the end of the war. Of these, 72 have lost their lives, while 349 have sustained serious injuries. These figures clearly demonstrate the scale and severity of the humanitarian challenge posed by landmines. The article highlights that mine contamination continues to pose a direct threat to human life and remains a major obstacle to reconstruction, development, and the safe return of internally displaced persons. It also emphasizes the importance of international cooperation in addressing this issue, noting in particular the contribution of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which has provided USD 3 million in support of demining efforts in Azerbaijan, reflecting strong humanitarian solidarity.
