The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia organized a commemorative event dedicated to the 34th anniversary of the Khojaly Genocide. Diplomats and representatives of the local community attended the event. The ceremony began with the performance of the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan, followed by a one-minute silence in memory of the victims of the Khojaly tragedy.
In his remarks, Ambassador Mutallim Mirzayev provided detailed information about the massacre committed by Armenian armed forces on the night of 25–26 February 1992, emphasizing that the Khojaly Genocide constitutes a crime against humanity. He also referred to the resolutions adopted by the Organisation of Islamic Countries concerning the Khojaly Genocide, as well as to the principled support extended by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Subsequently, participants were informed about the reconstruction and rebuilding efforts carried out in Khojaly following its liberation from occupation, as well as about the Khojaly Genocide Memorial inaugurated by President Ilham Aliyev. It was noted that the Memorial is not only a place that preserves the pain of the past, but also a symbol of justice and victory, serving to convey historical truths to future generations and to safeguard national memory.
As part of the event, a short documentary film dedicated to the Khojaly tragedy was screened, community representatives delivered remarks sharing their reflections, and a photo exhibition was organized.
